What You’ll Be Doing
As a critical member of the Specialized Services Team, the Social Emotional Health Coordinator is responsible for promoting and enhancing Cactus Park Elementary’s academic mission by providing services that strengthen home-school partnerships and address barriers within the learning environment. Through one-on-one, classroom, or school-wide sessions, they will help students cope with personal and psychological issues that affect their school performance, behavior, view of themselves, and/or socialization. The Social Emotional Health Coordinator reports to the Special Education Director.

The Social Emotional Health Coordinator reports to the Special Education Director.
Roles/Responsibilities
Maintain Caseloads
- Maintain highly effective data management system for monitoring student progress;
- Evaluate student transcripts and assessments to guide their use of interventions and supports;
- Recognize patterns in social/emotional/behavioral characteristics and needs.
Mediation
- Provide counseling, treatment plans, and workshops to students, parents, and school staff;
- Collaborate with community agencies and outside therapists to incorporate techniques and interventions for students;
- Active participation in the IEP process as necessary;
- Continuously assess, communicate, and problem solve on issues such as attendance, mental health, diversity, delinquency, homelessness, child abuse, neglect, foster care, crisis intervention, behavior management, and ensuring confidentiality with staff.
Family Partnerships
- Advocate proactively and establish respectful partnerships with families and students;
- Provide families with referrals to outside resources of all kinds to support academic success and wellness;
- Establish follow up activities to facilitate effective utilization of resources.
Qualifications

- At least two of the following are required: Bachelor’s degree in education and/or social work, Master’s degree in social work is preferred, 2+ years of full-time work experience in an urban school, and/or standard teaching certification;
- Ability to attend annual summer off-site professional development;
- Understanding of state and federal requirements, legislations, regulations, policies, litigations, and ethical issues related to educational services;
- Demonstrate specialized knowledge and skills in crisis intervention, assessment of crisis situations, strategies for de-escalation, and preventions of crisis situations;
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills;
- Strong ability to work with flexibility;
- Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines;
- Experience working in urban environments;
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy and experience teaching strategies to support all learners;
- Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency;
- Language: English proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish preferred;
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
